Only the road knows what she was thinking
I wouldn’t reside in her head any longer,
Once her steely eyes had evicted me
And the tone of her voice made sure I knew
The party was over.
I glanced over at her once
And thought I saw a smile break underneath that vicious veneer
But aside from a tear or two
I was lost again in making the translation.
Maybe the silence
In the middle of a tango in which
Neither one of us would ever shut up
Said more than words ever could.
